If you live in the Tampa Bay area like myself you know right away that …
While in the Tampa Bay area there is plenty to explore and find. If you are in the mood to visit a brewery in the Tampa Bay area it is very easy to find one, because they are basically everywhere. However, Four Stacks Brewing Company is not exactly on the beaten path as the rest of the breweries. I took the trip out to Four Stacks Brewing Company to try out their line up of beers that were sending shockwaves on social media by the locals.
Four Stacks Brewing Company is named after the giant four stacks from Big Bend Power Plant, now currently owned by TECO Energy. The actual brewery is located only a few miles away from the town’s landmark that give Four Stacks Brewing Company its name. The history behind the town and the power plant dates back to the 1920s where the Dickman family purchased the land.
According to Wikipedia, in 1957, Francis Corr, a retired businessman from Michigan, purchased the land. Corr renamed the area La Vida Beach. Legend has it that in 1958 Corr’s wife Dorothy suggested a new name, Apollo Beach, for the area’s greatest benefit — sunshine. And that is how the town got its name. But enough history, more about the brewery.
I entered Four Stacks Brewing Company in the early afternoon on a Saturday to a small crowd of locals watching the football game and talking it up with the taproom staff. The taproom staff was super nice and accommodating. As an interested craft beer lover I tend to ask a lot of questions about their brewing process, their beer line up decisions, and which beers are considered to be their ‘best’. So that is a testament to their patience, because I can get annoying as sh**. That all being said, it was a fun experience in their taproom.
On to the beer…
Four Stacks Brewing Company has a solid craft beer line up that has a diverse arrangement of flavors and styles.
White IPA : Perhaps one of the most smooth and crisp IPAs I have ever tasted. A complete refreshing brew that would be great while enjoying a day at the beach or just relaxing in the sun. Hints of a light citrus and hops fill my taste buds and nose. This was my favorite of the line-up.
Brew Barrymore: A light strawberry wheat beer that has nice flavor and clean taste.
Chocolate Coffee Porter: Gives off a smoky smell with a buttery smooth bitter style of cocoa and coffee. Flavors are well balanced and dynamic as a function, everyday porter.
Pinfish Pale Ale: This is a great beer to bring to the party for people who want a nice lighter beer and pair with fish or even a mild cigar. I would throw this in my growler and take it to the golf course.
Sun City Fruit Ale: Perfect for a girl (or guy) getting into craft beer. Filled with hints of fruit that are light, sweet and easy to drink.
Overall, I enjoyed Four Stacks Brewing Company and would go back to enjoy their great line up of beer.
